Crossfire

When looking through the paper i always like to look at the sketches, most of them give a great representation of parliment and royals, but this one stood out. The image is simple, very effective and emotional, probably more so to those with people out there.

It shows the fate that potentially awaits people of the services, they put there lifes on the line to fend for the country and for what? The image for me summarises IRAQ, what have we got from it?

On the design side its a good way of showing a point, how two different objects of similar shape can represent something so different.

Do you know the cartoonist Steve Bell's work? He studied at Leeds in the 70s.

He has some great political stuff, Click here to see his work

Do you know who did the illustration, I can't quite make out the name in the image.

I'd not heard of Steve Bell but I checked out the site Paddy linked and theres some nice images there. Seems like he creates quite textured illustrations with a nice use of colour accompanied by very witty comments as you'd expect. They seem a bit more 'comic book' than the work of some political cartoonists which is nice.

Another one worth checking out is Gerald Scarfe. He takes his subjects and caricatures them to the point just before complete distortion, creating some interesting images.

Worth a look.
